Digital business cards in the enterprise: SSO, SCIM and governance

SSO and SCIM are often confused, but they solve two different problems. Authentication (SSO) lets people sign in to bizCARD with their company credentials, without one more password. Provisioning (SCIM) creates, updates and deactivates members and cards from directory attributes: name, title, department, phone, email. If you want cards to maintain themselves, provisioning is what does the work.

The result is a governed lifecycle. New joiners find their card ready with the organisation's template; people who change role or office see their details update without a ticket; leavers are deactivated in the directory and, as a consequence, on bizCARD too: card no longer reachable, sessions revoked, no data deleted. Permanent deletion remains a separate operation under your control.

Every Enterprise rollout starts with a test environment and a pilot on a small group, with the attribute mapping defined together with your IT team. On the ESG side the contribution is small but measurable: fewer printed cards, no reprints when details change, and sharing statistics you can include in your sustainability report.

How to connect bizCARD to Microsoft Entra ID or Google Workspace

  1. 1

    We connect your identity provider

You register the application in your tenant, we verify the domain and enable SSO sign-in. The SCIM token is dedicated to your organisation and can be rotated and revoked.

  2. 2

We map attributes and run a pilot

Together we define which directory attributes end up on the card and validate everything on a small group of users, with your template already loaded.

  3. 3

    Rollout to the whole organisation

From then on joiners, role changes and leavers are reflected on the cards automatically. Marketing governs the brand, IT governs access.

SSO, SCIM and security FAQ

What is the difference between SSO and SCIM?

SSO is about access: people sign in to bizCARD with their company credentials. SCIM is about data: members and cards are created, updated and deactivated from the directory. You can enable them together or in two phases.

Which identity providers are supported?

For SSO, any OpenID Connect or SAML 2.0 provider, including Microsoft Entra ID and Google Workspace. SCIM 2.0 provisioning is designed for Microsoft Entra ID and for providers offering a standard SCIM client. Google Workspace does not expose SCIM for custom applications: in that case you use SSO and invitations.

What happens when someone leaves the company?

When the directory marks the user as inactive, bizCARD deactivates their card, revokes open sessions and removes access. No data is deleted: permanent deletion remains your decision.

Can we configure SSO and SCIM on our own?

We enable them together with your IT team: application registration, domain verification, attribute mapping and pilot. You need a technical contact and, ideally, a test tenant.

How does bizCARD contribute to our ESG report?

It reduces printed cards and removes reprints whenever details change, and gives you measurable figures (active cards, views, saved contacts) to estimate the paper saved. It is not an ESG reporting tool: it is one more data point, ready for whoever compiles the sustainability report.
